Went to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix today, beautiful. Sunny, warm and more cacti than you can shack a stick at, and I can’t spell the names of a single one. As is frequently the case in places like these, they had a special exhibit going on. This one is by the famed glass blower Chihuly. Wild stuff. Organic in form, bright, bold, every piece unique. As beautiful as it is, I couldn’t help but think that it was a bit much all in all. In comparison to the stark natural beauty of what surrounded it in the garden, the cacti, the flowering plants, even the browns and reds of the earth and stone of the surrounding hills, I thought you just can’t beat the original artist. Take a look at both the park and the art installed there. It is still really something.
