Seven Wonders of the Word
“In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John1:1
WARNING! THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS TECHNOLOGY RELATED REFERANCES!
Back to the beginning again! But this time there is a different reason, when we first looked at John 1 this lent it was to focus on how the Word creates, today… our focus shifts to how it Saves.
The reason for the warning above is that I am love technology (mostly) and have been computer nut for years. I have repaired them, rebuilt them and built them from the bottom up as well. I have used them for programing and have used just about every kind of program on them.
So when I read this passage from John, and thought about the Word Saving, well Steve Job’s came to mind! Ok, Steve is not God, period, lets move beyond that. I am partial to Apple Computers and nearly all Apple products, in fact this was written on my imac. But back to my point. Early on Apple computers were primarily just Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Their creativity and hard work put Apple out in front as far as technology and the personal computer were concerned.
At some point in the mid 1980’s after some real success, Steve Job’s left Apple in a power struggle over direction and who knows what else. Steve went on to foun NeXT computers, and had a little movie project known as Pixar Animation Studios.
While all that was going on Apple was going down the tubes, in some way’s it had lost itsense of what it was or who it was, (if a corporation can be described as a who.) In the late 1990’s Apple purchased NeXT and brought Steve Jobs back in and Apple and the world hasn’t been the same since! Steve refocused Apple back on to what it was to be doing “who” it was as a company. In this identity that he was partially responsible for creating at the beginning, Apple has been wildly successful. Some day, I am going to get me an iPad…. Ok… that day may be very far off, but some day!
This has not been an official Apple fanboy post! Nor do I confuse Steve Jobs with any kind of deity, living or dead. My point is this… that when the time was right God sent the Word into the world, in human form and enters the story directly to not just make an appearance b ut to save it! In essence Jesus became human so what we could remember who we are. We are made by the Word in the very image of God, the Word enters the story to remind us of that to show us what being created in the image of God is to look like in our lives. Jesus came into the story of humanity to save, and the world hasn’t been the same since. We don’t have to wait for the Word to save us, it is there to do so each day as we are reminded that in our baptisms we are God’s children.
Each day God in the saving Word offers us a fabulous, awesome and live giving “one more thing!” Each day we are drowned to sin and reborn in the image of the Word that creates and saves!
