a bruised reed he will not break

Isaiah 42:1-9

Today I have to do something at work that I really don’t want to do. Oh, it isn’t that it doesn’t need to be done, it does, but the doing of it is the thing.

It would be easier I suppose if I mounted up on my “high horse” and to mix metaphors charge into it like a bull in a china shop. Things are already broken, thus the task at hand, and my dearest wish is not to make a bigger mess.

The servant song in Isaiah 42 helps us see that doing the right thing often comes in gentle ways, even when the job that needs doing is a tough one.
