Hope, is a funny thing. It is sort of hard to operate without it. But this is where it gets really odd. It often seems when you need it most it is the farthest away, and when you are not so much in need, it is there in abundance. But here is the deal, no matter what there is always hope in the promises of God in Christ. We may not see it, or feel it, but it is there. Paul writes the following in Romans 5.
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
That line… “hope does not disappoint us” I have struggled with because I have had hopes that disappointed. But here is the deal, they were my hopes, and not always were they the best thing for me. In this case, my dashed hopes opened the door to God’s greater hopes for me.
Today may our hands always be open to grasp the hope of God given to us in Jesus Christ so that we and others might live into the fullness of life.
