Mock-ing

Mock.jpg To be honest, my son isn’t being mocked by his aunt in this picture, but it is the closest thing I could come up with.

Now I have mocked people, and I have been mocked, and the older I get, the less I want to have to do with either.

When Christ tells his disciples he is going to the cross and on the way he will be mocked and spat upon, well they just didn’t want to hear it, shoot I don’t want to hear it.

Mockery is mean, nasty and cruel. It is all about status, power and keeping up appearances. No wonder Jesus was mocked, no wonder the disciples had their Duh-sciple moments.  Jesus is continually pointing beyond himself to God and God’s love for all of us. This is not exclusive, this is not limiting, and because it is not, the world doesn’t understand, so it mocks.
